FAQ's What is Muscle Activation Technique?

Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) is a system developed by biomechanics expert Greg Roskopf to identify and correct muscle imbalances. Most people will have muscle imbalances at some time, caused either by overuse, trauma or just from activities that allow an imbalance to develop - this could include sitting for long periods of time, as well as many sporting activities. Untreated, these imbalances can lead to to inefficient function, pain and injury.

As a personal trainer, I use MAT with all new clients to ensure that any imbalances are corrected before we start putting increased stresses through the body. If a muscle is weakened through injury or lack of use, other more dominant muscles will take over the work. This leads to faulty movement patterns that will eventually catch up with you! By working the weak muscles in such a way that other muscles aren't able to 'help out' ensures that muscle strength is restored and correct movement patterns can be relearned.

Only a handful of trainers in the UK are qualified in MAT techniques and I am proud to be amongst the first in the country. Personal Training sessions incorporating MAT are available in York and Easingwold.
